My students need subscriptions to SuperScience and Time for Kids for authentic, current, real world science and social studies magazines to enhance literacy.
My students have limited resources at home and cannot afford to help pay for supplemental resources that connect them to engaging materials. Our classroom strives for every student to be successful and reach their highest potential.
My students are varied in so many ways and I cannot ask for a better group of students.
Several receive services such as speech, occupational therapy, social skills and special educational services, English Speakers of other languages (ESOL) as well as being high performers. Many come from broken homes and live with either one parent or grandparent. Our school has approximately 70% receiving free or reduced lunch. Our students come to school everyday with the motto of being respectful, responsible and ready to learn.
My Project
Because many of our students lack resources including food, it is impossible to ask for assistance to purchase supplemental materials such as classroom magazines that help engage our students in real life and relevant information. Subscriptions to SuperScience and Time for Kids help students practice their reading and analytical skills as well as address issues which are relevant to both their academic and personal lives. Also as important, these materials are great for motivating students to want to learn and be immersed in true and relevant information.
Donations to this project will help to providing engaging materials to increase interest in science and social studies for my students.
They will also be exposed to current topics in both subjects which are not available in ordinary textbooks. Additionally, students will be able to engage in reading across the curriculum and make connections to their lives.
