My students need to view and use Math in real world situations by reading Scholastic Math.
This project expired on June 19, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
The students are very special. They come to school every day eager to learn and willing to try new things, despite the many conflicts at home or outside of school.
Our classroom is comprised of 29 amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and all receive free lunch.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
Students learn Math problems every day but don't always connect what they are learning to in class to what happens in real life. Math is everywhere and since the students are from low income families they don't have a lot of exposure to materials that make Math relative.
Scholastic Math provides real world Math situations using different scopes of Math and exposes students to many different materials using Math.
This will provide students with many opportunities to read about math, solve problems using math that they might see in everyday life and work collaboratively to see Math in action.
