This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Please help me convince my fifth graders that math really is useful in the real-world.
I am a fifth grade math teacher at a K-5 Title One elementary school in Mississippi.
Due to the financial crisis that our state is facing, we have received several budget cuts. My students are excited about learning. I feel that it is my job as their teacher to make sure that they stay excited about learning, regardless of our setbacks.
My Project
I have students of all abilities in my class. Many of my students are able to complete the math lesson faster than others. It is my job to accommodate students by providing a wide variety of activities. I would like to provide my students with new, creative options to keep them engaged and challenged once they have finished with their work. I would like to have enrichment math activities available for my early finishers. I believe games such as Buy It Right Now and Multiplication Bingo will be kid-friendly and right on target when it comes to practicing math skills. I believe that children will feel a sense of accomplishment when using the games because they can do the activities independently. I would also like hands-on measurement tools such as rulers and tape measures. I will use these items to provide my students with real world measurement problems to solve.
By funding our project, you will make it possible for my students to continue to improve in their math development.
Please help me provide my early finishers with mathematical challenges that are related to the real world.
