Real News Really Happens; Time For the Kids To Read!
My students need 25 subscriptions to Time for Kids for access to a high quality nonfiction news source that is written at their level. My students are incredibly bright and inquisitive, and are eager to learn!
My class is full of unique personalities. They are creative, funny, dramatic, sweet and entertaining. Students in my class have ownership of their own learning and a lot of what goes on happens naturally. As a first year teacher, and my strong passion I have for all subject areas and my strong desire to share it with the kids, my class is definitely an engaging atmosphere. Having students eager about learning new things is a strong goal of mine.
Taking the time to know my students well, not just as learners, but also as people has helped create a real sense of community inside of the classroom.
I care about my kids and they know that. No matter the obstacles they face, they strive to be the best they can be every single day.
My Project
News is happening faster than ever and kids today are hit with a wide variety of information. My kids are very intelligent individuals, however, they lack the knowledge of current events around the world. It is important to encourage fourth graders to know whats happening in the world and Time for Kids is a safe and accessible way to introduce them to current events.
These magazines which will be given weekly, will provide students with access to some of the biggest news stories of the coming year.
Each magazine also includes assignments for students to complete and will allow our class to have current events discussions as a whole group.
These magazines will provide greater insight for students who are already being exposed to current events and will provide an on-ramp into the world of current events for students who are unaware of what's happening in the world.
