We are a community of diverse learners.
Many of our scholars score at or above standard, but we also we have 12-15% who are not performing at standard. Some scholars are second language learners and others have difficulty learning through traditional methods. These are scholars who have been identified with learning disabilities, which also includes students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD. Sometimes traditional methods don't address the way they learn.
In our school we love to learn and we acquire knowledge and skills best through learning together, sharing ideas and applying our skills to real world situations. I love that our school is made of unique individuals who bring varying ideas and enjoy working together. They solve problems by sorting out and building on each other’s ideas. Most importantly these scholars bring a love of learning to school everyday!
My Project
Research has shown the when students are given authentic and meaningful writing experiences, their writing improves.
Through the use of bullet journals, notecards and letters, the students will engage in real world experiences that have a purpose making the students excited about writing!
With the use of journaling and journal prompts, the students will be working on introspective writing. Also, writing cards and having an authentic audience to send them to will give the students purpose in their writing. The class will be researching how to send letters to give opinions, as well as sending notes of praise to some of our favorite people. These may be friends and family, or they could be celebrities including actors, sports figures, and other people we admire.
These real world writing experiences will give the students additional skills while showing them that writing can be fun!
