Help me give my students supplies [Large paper, makers, colored pencils, and cardstock] to design and create high quality projects in the math classroom.
Despite the many obstacles that my students face each day, they are extraordinary. They are hard workers, good thinkers, and motivated young people.
My 6th-grade classes are comprised of 90 wonderful students who deserve learning resources that are conducive to their individual learning styles.
Over 75% of my students are on free and reduced-price lunch and many come from homes with little to no parental support. We are very culturally diverse as well. The resources in our district are limited and students often times do not get the opportunity to experience unique materials that will enhance their learning. Despite all of these obstacles, our students are eager, willing, and capable of learning. I want them to have every advantage that they can get and want to provide them with that same experiences as peers their same age in more affluent districts. They deserve to succeed and I want for each of them to know that they can be successful.
My Project
At the completion of each strand of standards in my 6th grade math class, my students complete a real-life math project to help solidify their skills. For example, students design, run and create a 3-D replica of a taco truck. We also design a zoo and enlarge candy bar wrappers amongst many other projects.
Supplies for these projects are consumable and most students cannot financially provide their own.
Not having the proper materials results in final products that aren't as appealing as they could be. Students put a lot of time and effort into their rough drafts and I would like to be able to provide them with the materials to create a final product that they are proud to display.
