My students are in special education. They spend different amounts of time in inclusion classrooms (the grade for their age). When they are in my class, we work on core reading, writing, and math skills. My students are at least two grade levels behind their same age peers. Seventy five percent are English Language Learners. They are amazing and think outside of the box. They love feeding our class pet, a turtle named Tiny Tim, and volunteering as lunchroom helpers.
My Project
My students are all special education students. Many of them are learning English as a second language and many of them are free and reduced lunch. This means that many of the first hand experiences that would be really great for them to have, they are unable to have.
I would love to bring some nature into my classroom because they really love science.
They are currently learning about plants and I think that the insects would help create more understanding about how plants work and how we can grow our food.
Having butterflies in the class also gives them class responsibilities which they need and enjoy.
