My Students

My students are typical middle school students. We are a large suburban school with a family feel. The students are lively, loud, and lovable. They come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Many overcome challenges and work hard for their goals each day.

Reading and writing helps my students become confident learners.

They are learning how to express themselves and evaluate the world around them. After 25 years of teaching, I am still amazed by the desire and eagerness our young people have to learn.

My Project

Books open a new world to students. I like to choose books that demonstrate how characters face the same issues as my students. By choosing books with relatable characters, my students find themselves devouring books all the while improving their reading skills. Characters in these books grow and change throughout the plot. Students will be able to identify how the plot influences change in character.

The book Maniac Magee demonstrates how all families are different and non traditional families can work together to lead to individual successes.

My classes have been very intrigued with an excerpt that I have used in class and are currently very eager to read the book.
