Help me give my students "real kid" reading experiences using "Real Kid Readers" along with "Henry and Mudge" beginning chapter books!
This project expired on June 30, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
The first graders in my classroom are very diverse in terms of ethnicity and socioeconomic standing, but they all have one very important thing in common - they have a love of learning and are very enthusiastic in their pursuit to know more and do more! They have grown so much academically as well as socially, as we learn new ideas, grow to be better readers and mathematicians all while trying to learn important life skills like sharing, cooperation, patience and persistence.
Their excitement and positive attitude are contagious and I can't wait to see how far they go!
First grade is such an important academic year! What better way to encourage students to read, than to provide them with beginning reader titles that are easy for them to understand and feature situations that they can connect with. These books will be treasured titles in our classroom library and students will have the opportunity to have access to them to read in small groups or on their own.
Making good connections is such a critical step in allowing young students to comprehend what they are reading, once they have mastered the skill of word solving.
Once connections have been established, early readers can extend that skill and further their comprehension using short chapter books, like the "Henry and Mudge" titles.
