Mrs. Goldstein from Bedford HTS OH is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need quality, high-interest chapter books in order to help them become engaged, life-long readers.

What is your favorite book from your childhood? Many of us can quickly name at least one book that captivated us. The students that I teach do not like to read and have great difficulty choosing quality books for their personal enjoyment. My goal is to provide them with books that they will read.
My students are 8th graders who struggle in the subject of reading/language arts.
They attend a public middle school in a suburb of a large metropolitan area. Many of my students do not have personal access to books in their homes and were not raised in literature-rich environments. Therefore, they are reluctant to pick up a book, especially a chapter book!
I am requesting class sets of several quality adolescent novels that are of high-interest and lower vocabulary levels in order to motivate my students to read and discover the richness of literature. The books that I am asking for include "The Pinballs", "Tuck Everlasting", "Number the Stars", and "Because of Winn Dixie." I want my students to learn how to comprehend and summarize what they read as well as to share how the book relates to their lives and the lives of the people around them. I also want them to be able to have discussions with their peers about what they are reading and to share ideas and values that they are learning. Reading opens up so many doors!
This project is so important on so many levels.
We all know that people can not succeed in our economy today without the valuable skill of reading. As well, reading is a relaxing activity that bridges gaps between cultures and enables individuals to travel to places that they would not otherwise be able to do.
