My Students

Help me give my students books for our school library so they can explore a wide variety of genres. These books will help give our school library a facelift.

For many students in our middle school, books are their ticket to explore new worlds.

These are amazing kids, but many of them don't get the chance to go outside our rural boundaries. Reading is one way to help expose them to possibilities beyond and to open their minds to new ideas and adventures.

Our librarians work tirelessly to create a welcoming space for reading, but they need more books. Teachers require independent reading at all three grade levels, and the library does its best to support both the students and teachers. They try really hard to select books that fulfill classroom requirements, but also ones that students will love to read... ones that will keep them coming back for more.

Our middle school is home to approximately 375 bright and talented students. We are a rural school in northern Idaho, and the nearest four-year college is over two hours away.

My Project

Our middle school language arts staff and part-time librarians work hard to ensure our students read a wide variety of books. We require multiple genres and independent reading texts throughout middle school. Each teacher has a small classroom library, but most students also find their classroom books in the school library.

There is nothing like the excitement on a student's face when they find a book they absolutely love!

Our school library budget is very small, and there is no possible way for our librarians to keep up with all the new books students and teachers are asking them to add to the library shelves.

I am requesting a variety of books such as Ready Player One, George, Believe, and Loving vs. Virginia, that would fulfill the realistic/contemporary fiction genre. Our students need new library books to keep our school library updated, fresh, and relevant to students' interests and needs. Having new books will allow us to encourage a lifelong love of reading for our students!
