My students come from a little town in a rural district with a strong community that supports education. Families here care about one another. I can't think of a better group.
They're tough, fun-loving, and a diverse group despite the small-town background.
Each school day is energetic and full of fun, which is perfect for our basics-first approach to reading and math. Our school has two grades, and we use that to our benefit to really hammer down on essential reading and math skills.
My Project
One of my teacher goals this year is to increase the opportunities for my students to interact and respond during lessons, giving them time to think and share information and giving me better opportunity to assess them.
The answer boards and sticky notes will be two ways to shake things up and give my students opportunities to respond.
They will be encouraged to think, to write, and participate in their learning. There are so many ways to use these boards and sticky notes not only in whole class but in small groups and partner work. Students will be able to use the color-coded sticky notes to organize thoughts and share with others. The boards will be used for both quicker responses and more thought-out answers with whole class or partners.
Research has shown the importance of engagement in learning and how response opportunities help with this. These simple materials will help facilitate such in our classroom.
