My Students
My team and I serve young learners in a Title I public school located in the steadily developing Southwest quadron of the District of Columbia. Our Prekindergarten inclusion class is a warm, rich community of enthusiastic, engaged learners from diverse families. They love coming to school and sharing experiences with their teachers and friends. And I love that this young community of culturally, socially, economically, and academically diverse learners come together to engage and encourage each other.
Many of our young scholars are new to the formal school setting, and as preschoolers require lots of tactile, oral, and visual experiences.
Most of my students are from low-income families who have set goals and standards for their children to obtain a high-quality early childhood education that would lay the path for future accomplishments.
My Project
These little Superstars are hard at work and hard at play throughout the school day. They are active at work and play in the morning, and continue their busy work and play activities in the afternoon. Breakfast in the classroom fuels them for morning play. Family-style lunch and midday rest replenishes their energy for afternoon activities. However, exerting all of that energy leaves these little ones hungry at the end of the day! Providing them with healthy snacks will provide adequate nourishment for them as they transition from school to home or their other after-school activities.
