This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a low-income school in Mississippi. Students come to me with a variety of needs, both academic and social-emotional. They are always eager to learn. All of our students receive free lunch. My school is currently a B-rated school, but we are striving to become an A-rated school.
They are the shining stars who brave through some pretty tough home lives in order to excel in a safe, fun, engaging learning environment.
My hope is to provide my students with a colorful, warm classroom that is not only inviting but purposeful.
My Project
In order to help nourish the growing interest in reading in my students, I would like to create a " Fun Reading Lounge" classroom library. This is where students can convene for teacher read-alouds, and Self-Selected Reading. In order to make my "Fun Reading Lounge" classroom library even more effective, I hope to acquire a some class sets of grade-level appropriate books. Acquiring books that my students see themselves in is also important. Our library must be updated to include titles that the students will enjoy as well informational text. I hope to continue to build upon the lounges little by little, adding more books, class sets, and shelving as opportunities for making additions are presented.
Your generosity will assist in providing books that are of interest to my students.
These books will help my students have a love for reading. They will also gain a fun workstation where thriving and improving reading fluency and comprehension will happen daily.
