Help me give my students 5 sets of early reading tools, including magnetic letters, white boards, and alphabet picture cards to help them build their early reading skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
While many of my students live in a high poverty area, they don't let their surroundings define them. They are bright, inquisitive, and eager to learn. Many times they are asked to shoulder responsibilities that no child should have to deal with. Yet, they always have positive attitudes, and display resilience and maturity that far exceeds their age.
My students come to school each day with a determination and willingness to learn, and it is my greatest pleasure to be their guide and facilitator during their educational journey.
My Project
I have the opportunity to work with my students daily on reading skills in a small group setting. We learn sight words together, practice decoding and blending words, and then we put it all together to read simple stories. Many times my students must share limited materials due to a lack of resources. These materials from Literacy Footprints will help my students build their early reading skills every day. Students will have their own set of materials, and the chance to independently work with letters and pictures to read sight words, and decode CVC words. Students will be able to work with age appropriate materials that will challenge their thinking, and help them move to the next level as readers.
