Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I'm a first grade teacher at a low-income school in East San Jose. Most of my students are second language learners from the surrounding neighborhood. I would like to use the take-home book packs to expose my students and their parents to quality literature. The literature would complement our upcoming unit on insects as well as a fall unit on animals. The hands-on manipulatives as well as vocabulary cards would benefit my kinesthetic learners. Many of my students do not have access to literature in their homes and these take-home packs would be a fun and motivating way to engage my budding readers. The students would take home the packs on Monday and return them on Friday. I would include a check off list of materials in order to keep packs organized and intact. The parents of the students in my classroom are very motivated to help their children. I really want to provide them with a resource that will enable them to assist their children in their literacy development. Thank you for considering our proposal.
