Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all." Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy said it best. I want to instill a love of books in my students by introducing them to Pete the Cat, a fun, laid back, cool cat!
My special needs kids are beginning readers in early elementary school.
They still are fascinated with what they read and see in books. They are just beginning to discover that books hold adventures and mystery in them as well as information about the world around them. They come from a low income neighborhood where new books aren't readily available to them unless they see it at school. Libraries are just too far away from them. I want to bring books up close to them!
My Project
These new books will engage my special needs students and encourage them to use their emerging reading skills. Having 2 copies of each Pete the Cat book will allow them to read with another student, increasing their abilities to socialize with other students, often difficult for my little ones.
As these students begin to read more, they will be better readers and better learners.
My students will comprehend what they read and become fluent readers. They will discover that the world around them is a fun and exciting world to be in.
