Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students are experiencing school for the first time, and they are so excited to learn! Many of my students are Spanish speaking, living in a low-income neighborhood, and the majority of my students are receiving free meals during the school day.
Making school a fun place to learn is so important because kindergarten is the foundational year of their education.
My classroom provides the consistency and support my students need. I want to utilize all of the technology and educational resources that I can to give my students real life, hands-on experiences to make their learning meaningful. I am setting my students up for success!
My Project
My school district has gone away from using a designated reading curriculum to better meet the needs of individual learners and teach required standards. My two co-workers and I have purchased an amazing interactive read aloud program by Susan Jones off of Teacher's Pay Teachers to utilize with our students, but we need the weekly read aloud books to go with it. We are asking for one copy of each book to share among three classrooms full of eager, excited 5 and 6 year olds!
These books are engaging and fun for all students.
They will be our primary way of teaching essential reading skills such as: characters, main idea, setting, problem solving, compare and contrast, sequencing, and plot. In addition, these books will serve as a way to engage our young students with writing activities. Reading the books at the start of the week and continuing the discussion throughout will be a spring board for wonderful writing activities. We cannot wait to see what our students accomplish this year!
