"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
–Maya Angelou
I want to teach my students how to be successful readers by igniting their LOVE of literature. I want to expose my students to the adventure of a good book.
My students live in rural town and our school receives Title 1 services because many families in the area have a low income.
My students are future leaders. They work hard and want to do well. Some of my kids have a great sense of humor, some are more serious, some aren't afraid of mistakes, and some are for now. They are all different in so many ways, but the same too.
I love our school and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The teachers and families are down-to-earth and want what is best for the kids. The teachers work hard to stay informed on best practices and research in education to provide the greatest learning experience for our students.
My Project
My students will use these book sets for guided reading in my classroom. I will work with small groups and teach the students how to read a variety of texts with understanding. I want to make sure my students use the print and the story features to have a balanced reading process. A variety of text levels will allow each child to begin with appropriate difficulty to move forward. My students will learn how to read a variety of texts to help them be successful in their future.
The donations to this project will help my students be successful readers.
I will be able to work in small groups with my students to practice the reading strategies we learn in class.
