Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are located in Southeast Houston. They are all bilingual. All of them are on free or reduced lunches.
Our area was hit very hard from Harvey.
Half of my class were relocated because of the flooding and had to drive a good distance to continue attending our school. Some were living out of hotels until they could re-enter their homes, others are living with extended family members waiting for construction to be finished on their homes. Many of them come to school to feel safe and secure.
My Project
I'm requesting The Spanish Alphabet Teaching Tubs, Spanish/English Building Language Photo Library, Spanish Alphabet Learning Locks, Spanish/English Picture Magnets, Where Can I Go?, What Color Is It?, and Good Beginnings Bilingual Board Books.
The alphabet tubs and other activities dealing with letter recognition will be used to learn our letter names and sounds.
These hands-on materials will help them grasp what is needed to become successful learners. I also need a Teaching Tubs storage rack to keep the materials organized.
The CD books and other Bilingual readers will help them get more familiar with their Spanish language and how it is relayed. They will be able to enjoy and understand their language better using these books that are read in their native language. These books are in Spanish, therefore, they can relate better to their real-life experiences. It is very difficult to find Spanish materials to help them learn with.
