This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a low-income area. Many don't have the resources needed to excel academically even though they have the talent.
Our students are wonderful children who deserve a head start in life.
Our school is an environment where we try to make each student feel cared-for and supported. We strive to create a place where they are free to be themselves, take risks academically, and learn to be productive citizens in society.
With the help of others, I know my students will be on a level playing field with their suburban counterparts. They may not come from a place where they have everything, but I will do my best to support them!
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go and how it will assist the students on the road to becoming "historians." We just need your help in getting everything through our door!
The paper, staplers, markers, notebooks and other supplies of the sort will be used by the students, so that they may have supplies to use in class on a daily basis without having to worry about being unprepared to learn.
The items will allow the students to be organized and be ready. They will be willing and able to focus on instruction, rather than stressing over having the necessary supplies for classroom instruction. The makers will be used to create anchor charts that reflect the discussions we have during our mini-lessons. The notebooks and paper will help to keep student notes organized as well as a space for Journal writing and reflection to improve students writing.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful writing and historical interpretation. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long learners. As the teacher, I have planned for my students over the summer and have created some engaging and fun topics and projects for the students to complete over the course of the school year.
