Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade classroom is a place of transition and learning. Students will spend this year getting accustomed to new course work and material. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty district, my students are faced with challenges in and outside the classroom. Despite these challenges, I look to provide them with rigorous, fun coursework that will help them to be successful.
My students are silly, exceptional, and creative.
All twenty two of my students love to learn and look forward to coming to school each day. Creating lessons that are positive and creative will provide my students with a comfortable environment outside of their home lives.
My Project
In my classroom, carpet time is critical to establish routines and procedures for learning. In a second grade classroom, we commonly use carpet time for reading and math instruction. In addition, I project many of my lessons and videos onto the white board as a supplement to daily instruction.
A new carpet with specific squares for each student would be a life saver.
Each student could have their own space to sit comfortably and attentively during whole and small group. "Meet me on the rug" is a common saying in my classroom, therefore, I want my students to have their own space and room to spread out if necessary.
