Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low-socioeconomic status community, and are all born from immigrant families. Both the students and their families are a wonderful part of our Bilingual Program where the students are juggling two languages, English and Spanish, on a daily basis. They succeed in their learning by doing their best in school, and from the excellent support they receive at home. Our school is a great community that holds students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade. It is a welcoming environment, where children's laughter is always heard. The dedicated teachers and staff at our school love what they do and truly understand, and have, what it takes to teach children in the beginning of their schooling career.
My Project
Sitting down for more than ten minutes is difficult for students in their first few years of school. Providing my students with flexible seating options when working at a table for guided reading, centers, and extra help will make a positive difference is helping students sit for a period of 20 minutes.
The classroom needs to be a place where students are free to learn in their own way.
If I am able to give them seating choices that they are interested in and help them learn, I will do everything I can to make that possible. The wobbly stools will help wiggly first grade bodies move around as they need to, and the soft cushions will make buddy reading and independent reading time even better!
