Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th-grade students are creative, thoughtful, and are always curious about new learning! They love hands-on activities that allow them to think critically and use problem-solving strategies to help come up with different solutions. They come to school each day ready to learn despite the challenges they face at home or at school.

Resources are difficult to come by when teaching in an urban area.

Our school is located in the city where crime has affected the families greatly. Much of the community is unemployed which makes it difficult for students to be prepared for school. I do my best to provide my students with what they need to be successful on a daily basis. Often, I too, don't have the necessary resources for myself and have to improvise in the classroom or at home when teaching.

Each student loves learning and shows it in their own way. My classroom is made up of many learners which allow for a variety of learning strategies to ensure that each student's needs are met. They are a great group of kids, who keep me excited about teaching every day!

My Project

Students are still adjusting to being back into the classroom after learning from home this past year. For some students, a feeling of anxiousness still exists. I would like to continue to provide my students the opportunities to learn with flexible seating options. Additional lap desks will help my students navigate a new way of learning safely by allowing them to gather together in a comfortable way. The ear buds will allow them to stay focused while completing their work using the lap desks.

Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.

Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed and encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Please help equip my students with a safe and comfortable learning environment.
