This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Writing looks different in TK than in other grades. My TK students are exposed to the idea of writing, and it is my job to provide them opportunities to "write" and explore what that means. This project will give my students access to unique, hands-on materials to develop their literacy skills. Students who enjoy writing will be set up for success as they enter their kindergarten school year.

Encouraging children to engage through creative writing is one of the best ways for our children to learn, grow, and develop alongside one another.

Some of the engaging activities include writing on chalkboards with chalk, using their fingers to trace letters in a pencil box filled with sand, using various themed papers to draw/write with markers, crayons, or colored pencils, and more. Our students are able to learn both English and Spanish through listening to and communicating with their peers during these literacy activities.

Whether they are using the pocket chart vocabulary cards (that tie to each thematic unit) to talk, write, color, or draw, the vocabulary that is produced in either language benefits all students. Students teaching students develops confidence and aids authentic learning for our youngest learners.
