Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How can we truly make a difference? As teachers, we are provided with the opportunity of not only taking the hand of our students through their academic journey but to open their minds and touch their hearts. I am very fortunate to be the Spanish Dual Language Teacher of 41 second grade students. My students are amazing, hard working, open minded, caring, and with unique personalities that besides many hardships don't give up.
My students are dual language Hispanic students that work extremely hard to become fluent in both English and Spanish and appreciate/understand their culture.
They are an inspiration to many because of their confidence, eagerness to succeed, and willingness to work hard and succeed academically.
I am extremely lucky to be their teacher! They have taught me so much about life and I am so grateful. Besides their hardships such as single parent household, low income households (100 percent of our students get free lunch), and multiple families sharing a home, they come to school ready to learn, with a smile on their face, and always ready to help each other. We are a team!
My Project
Helping my students become organized and responsible students are my main goals. I truly believe that when students take charge of their education it makes it meaningful. Teaching two groups daily of 24 Dual Language Students is amazing but requires a lot of organization and routine.
Providing my students with small group tabletop organizers and heavy duty paper trays will allow them to take ownership of their own learning and provide them with an amazing tool.
The table top organizers will be great to have at each table in order for them to have the material needed at close proximity. The trays will allow the students to know exactly where to place their homework and classwork assignments daily. These organization tools will help my students take ownership of their assignments and allow them for independence. Please take a moment to help my students start this new journey of organization tools that will help them in the future!
