Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is made up of 20 amazing learners. They come to class ready to learn despite the obstacles they face prior to stepping foot in the classroom.
We are a Title I school and almost all of my students are English language learners.
My students love coming to school because I make learning fun. My students work hard each and every day. Unfortunately, they need supplies that I can’t provide on my own. This includes reading and math materials.
My Project
Diane Ackerman said, "Play is our brain's favorite way of learning." I believe that one of the best ways to engage students is through play!
I'm requesting games and materials to help improve their phonics, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills.
The game SPLASH will be perfect because we are about to start learning about special vowel teams. This will reinforce what I teach in phonics. I've also included a CVC game, comprehension charts, and Word of the Day chart that will be used to help improve reading comprehension and vocabulary. Most of my students are English Language Learners and they struggle with vocabulary.
Finally, the Number of the Day Chart will be used as a daily review. Students will get to practice representing a number in a variety of ways (tally marks, word form, place value, and more. It will also help students to practice quickly adding and subtracting 10 which can be difficult for first graders.
I am confident that regular use of these materials in conjunction with direct reading and math instruction will enhance my students' education!
