Help me give my students craft sticks, cardboard boxes, Shrinky Dinks, keychain rings, and erasable pens for the cumulative activity at the end of our financial literacy unit.
I teach two groups of wonderful first-grade students. My students are in the Mandarin Dual Language Program (MDLP), in which they're immersed in Mandarin for half of their school day. Their ability to learn and speak a second language is one of many things that puts a smile on my face every morning.
My students are mostly English language learners from low-income families.
They are curious, hands-on learners who need a lot of visuals, realia, and manipulatives to stay engaged.
My Project
My students will learn about consumers and producers as part of the financial literacy unit on goods and services. At the end of the unit, they will work in pairs and create a storefront using the requested cardboard boxes. They will use the craft sticks to create little people as the consumers and producers. Using the Shrinky Dinks sheets, my students will draw and create unique items to sell in their stores. Other requested materials will also be utilized in making this activity successful.
Through this engaging activity, my students will experience first hand what it means to be a consumer and producer.
Your help will allow this experience to come to live while my students actively practice what they've learned on goods and services.
