Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has recently adopted a motto that all students are provided the opportunity to succeed and go to college. The students in my classroom need leveled readers to allow them to expand their reading levels and books that teach them about good character/behavior to prepare them for this journey.
My students are eager to learn, but sometimes allow behavior to interfere with their learning.
I teach at a school that has students from low income families, and has been placed in a program improvement program. My school has adopted a motto, that all students can succeed and go to college. Our classroom is focusing on the appropriate college bound behaviors, and what a student that goes to college "looks" like. My students come from many types of homes where character education has not been taught, so this is difficult for them. By using the character education books, I can help them in this area.
My students are also struggling readers. By purchasing leveled reader sets, my students will be provided the opportunity to read books on their level and better comprehend the stories that they read. With success in reading my students will become confident college bound students.
My Project
I have requested a set of character education books, and a set of healthy habits books that will allow me to clearly teach character education behaviors that are appropriate for college bound students. I also have ordered a set of leveled readers, in three levels. The students in my classroom will be able to increase there reading comprehension levels, which in turn will allow them take a step closer to being college ready.
In working in a under performing title 1 school, character education and leveled readers are an important part of the curriculum I teach.
By teaching character, the students I teach will develop positive behavior traits that will last a lifetime.
