My students come from many different backgrounds--but that is what makes them so special! Many find school to be a safe place to explore the possibilities of their future, and I am their guide.
In my classroom, we celebrate what makes us different.
Some of my students live with both parents, some with one, some with grandparents or aunts or uncles and some with foster parents. Some live in big houses, some in apartments, some in shared housing. What all my students have in common is that I believe they can accomplish anything!
My Project
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Suess
Through diverse, exciting, and beautifully illustrated books, my students can access a world beyond their current environment.
As a new to first grade teacher, my classroom library is made up of a few well-loved, but tattered (and sometimes outdated), books. Our school places a high value on reading and I plan to give my students time to explore new books and learn to read for pleasure. I would love to fill my library with books that show different places in the world, different careers, and educational opportunities--all while reflecting what my students see in the mirror. This is especially important for my English Language Learners and why I specifically chose books that integrate home languages into the classroom library.
