Family. Each one of my 23 students brings a special trait and variety to our classroom enabling us to overcome challenges together much like a family. Never has this facet of my Family classroom been so apparent than the past few months as we all are overcoming challenges at school and home due to Hurricane Michael. This tragedy has brought us closer as a class family. My students stand up for and support each other like families do. They show love for each other like families do. They disagree like families do. They reconcile like families do. Most importantly, they have learned to live together like we all should do.
I love that my students have overcome adversity through this natural disaster.
To them, it doesn't matter the location of the school because my students are the school. They have taught each other and taught me even more. My Class Family is what truly matters to me.
My Project
Giving my students a classroom library after Hurricane Michael will be very helpful as all of my books were destroyed. Being able to offer my students books as they return to our school will make school feel a little more like home. Before the hurricane, we were reading Wonder as a class. My students were choosing to read this book over going to recess...This is how much reading means to my students.
Most of my students lost everything in their homes due to Hurricane Michael so giving them a classroom library of new books will put a smile on their faces!
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to make my classroom feel like home for my students. Opening a new book at school will feel like home.
