Help me give my students a listening center, headphones, and books to listen to to help them gain new vocabulary to start reading. This is a double subject area because there are math listening books too!
I serve twenty kids in my head start classroom, ages 3, 4, and 5. They come from low income families. For some, school is a safe place. We thrive to create not only fun learning opportunities for them, but memorable experiences that they have never had as well. They come to school excited and ready to learn and when it is time to go home, they do not want to leave. We encourage the families to send them in play clothes because sometimes we are covered in mess from head to toe. We are a hands-on learning classroom. Most of what we do is open ended activities so the children can use their imagination and have tons of questions to extend their learning. I love how creative they are and how happy they are during their learning time. Even when they come in with a frown, they quickly get it turned upside down because they love our classroom environment show love for one another. These kids are not only inspired by me touching their life but they are such a true inspiration to me.
My Project
This will make a huge impact on children learning how to read. This is an extra support for children to be read to and have hands-on literacy! My children deserve a listening center at school because we know it is hard for parents to squeeze in reading time and school is the only place they get read to. This will inspire my kids to gain decoding reading strategies, write words, and enjoy reading through independence. They will also gain new vocabulary and practice following directions. This listening center will help them be successful in all their years to come.
