My classroom is currently made up of 21 wonderfully unique minds of all backgrounds and ability levels. They show an eagerness to learn and are best served when working in small groups.
What an energetic and kind-hearted group of students I have this year!
They are such good friends that the most challenging part of my day is asking them to complete independent work because they cannot help but try to collaborate and assist one another. I often see students explaining work to one another. This is touching given the varying ability levels with academics and language acquisition that we have in our class.
My Project
First Grade is where students develop a love of reading. Even the most reluctant students can be hooked when given the right book to capture their interest.
I have seen the right selection of books turn reluctant readers into bookworms.
Unfortunately, most of my students do not have access to books at home. Our classroom needs enough books so that students can borrow them from the classroom for nightly reading practice.
The book levels chosen are ones that all First Grade students will be reading during the course of the year. Both fiction and nonfiction selections will give students a variety of choices and will allow students to pick books that will excite and engage them.
