My students need a comfortable, organized, and colorful classroom library full of books with characters that they can relate to!

My students are energetic and excited to learn Third graders who thrive in structured environments. They live in a community on the west side of Chicago. Ours is a beautiful and strong community, but the students lack some necessary resources that help them learn successfully.
For example, they LOVE to read, but don't have many books at home.
When they come to school, my students have many needs that need to be met, and we work to meet them, but reading is always our focus!
In third grade reading, our first unit is all about reading around the world. My students will learn about kids just like them all over the world- how those kids access books, what books they read, and how they share their books with others. They will also be learning about their cultures and realizing that we are all more similar than different! I am hoping that this unit will ignite their fire for learning. The books that will be added to the classroom library through this project are student interest books that they will read during independent reading time. The students can relate to the characters in so many different ways! Some of the characters look like my students, are their age, have similar interests, have the career that the student dreams of having, or stress about the same things as them. When the instruction ends and independent reading time begins, I want students to be excited and take ownership of their reading with these books!
Having a comfortable, organized, and colorful classroom library is almost as important as the books themselves!
The Eric Carle Elementary USA Map Area Rug will provide them with a space to read the new books while also developing a better understanding of where in the country the characters are telling their stories from. The Sharpies and Mr Sketch Markers will help create colorful labels for the library and the Swingline 9112 ClassicCut Pro Paper Trimmer will help me cut the labels efficiently to organize the library and create bookmarks for the students. Our school does not have a librarian, so our classroom library is key to teaching my students how to organize and take care of literature. Thank you so much in advance for supporting my third graders on their literacy journey!
