As a teacher in a rural low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are being raised in single parent households or by grandparents.
Despite the many challenges they face, I want to keep things simple and provide my students with a safe and loving environment for learning.
Once they walk into my classroom I focus on their individual potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a loving and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire each and everyone of my kids to continue learning once they leave my care.
My Project
This school year we are implementing Readers and Writers Workshop. I have implemented flexible seating options in my room over the last year. My students need a new table to work at during small group time. They can read together more easily or work on their writing projects by having another choice available within the classroom.
I think they would absolutely love the kid size DIRECTORS CHAIR!
They will be able to sit in it in front of the room when they read their stories to the class, it will help to make them feel special.
With Readers Workshop each student will pick out 5 books to keep to read during the week. They need the storage bags to keep their books safe and clean in throughout the week.
It would be a blessing to be able to provide a new table for more work choices, the directors chair to make them stand out and take ownership in their work, and storage bags to use to protect our classroom library books These new resources will help my students to become more independent and responsible learners.
