My students need a variety of high quality non-fiction and fiction texts. Gail Gibbons' books have detailed diagrams, important content rich vocabulary, and colorful pictures. All three components are incredibly important in supporting our young learners.
They are creative, curious, and kind students. My students love to draw, paint, create, sing, and move. Their ages range from four to six years old. They are great storytellers and love to be treated like the older kids at school. I want their classroom to be a place that they know was built just for them, a place where they know their ideas are valued and they are wanted. It is only when you feel happy and secure that your brain is ready to learn and grow.
My Project
My students will benefit from these materials through enriched vocabulary, developing a deeper understanding of science by having detailed diagrams to reference, and grow as readers by being excited about reading. It is critical that students become engaged in the process of reading and develop a love of the language of communication. There is a listening center that I can use with these texts and help my students access the rich vocabulary inside the books. One example of how these resources will benefit my students is by helping them gain a scientific vocabulary. Every content area in school is more accessible when you have a rich and meaningful dialogue based on shared experiences. My class could use these resources to deepen their understanding and knowledge.
