Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students are newcomers to the United States. At their young age, they are eager to learn the content and the language of their new home. English is not the primary language of 21 of the 22 students in my classroom. The vast majority of my students do not have immediate contact to the English Language after school hours.
School is a safe haven for many, where they enjoy reading books and spending time working their way through online educational games.
The school is a warm and loving place where teachers and staff work together with every student's best interest in mind.
My Project
We need comprehension books and activities in order to master our reading skills and become proficient students! These items will allow assistance in enhancing the language and understanding of text of many of my non-English speaking students.
By being able to use these interactive journals, students will be able to practice every day reading skills .
They will be able to practice building and decoding everyday vocabulary and understanding, thus making them stronger English speakers and readers!
The listening center will help with many of my newcomer non-English speakers. They will be able to listen to a text and answer questions that differs from having the teacher read aloud.
