I teach sixth grade where we have a lot of lively students! Students come ready to learn everyday, our school is a second home to them--a safe haven. Our students are all from low-income families living in a low-income community right outside our schools doors. Living in low-income housing comes with its struggles outside the classroom that can be brought within the classroom. We like to reduce the stress inside the classroom with a safe environment, ensuring that everyday students come to a warm welcoming face and leave with the confidence they need to succeed regardless of their struggles.
The positive attitude the students bring to school everyday, regardless of their home life and background, has inspired me and the school community to ensure their success.
Every student is well known by the classroom teachers and cared for like one of our own children. These students are our family not just our students.
My Project
Nothing is more discouraging when students work very hard on their essays or reports and at the end, can’t print out that extra copy because toner, ink, photocopier and printer resources are limited.
We are requesting a printer and toner.
Our school photocopier, shared by many teachers, is used for high-volume photocopying of worksheets to enforce skills. It breaks down frequently and needs to be serviced often. Having this printer will allow the degree of freedom to photocopy student worksheets without worries. Moreover, it will provide students an opportunity to print work with ease – mainly because my students do not have a printer at home. An extra multi-use printer is always an additional asset to have because it allows staff to make a “quick copy” of a graphic organizer, worksheet, or homework assignment should the opportunity arise.
