My students need 3 tablets so they can practice their English language skills with the help of various learning apps, specifically during independent work periods.
My students are brave, curious, creative, and very resilient!
Many of my English Learners have already experienced a lot of hardship and trauma during their short lives.
Yet, they come to school every day ready and feel motivated to learn because "my father said I must study hard to have a better life and a good job in this country, Teacher".
My students come from many linguistic and cultural backgrounds and have had a wide variety of life experiences. These are the attributes that can significantly enrich the life of the school and help enhance learning for all students. They are truly an asset to our school community.
Their abilities are truly amazing! Imagine trying to learn regular school curriculum along with their English speaking peers while trying to learn the language?
My groups have different native language literacy levels, English language proficiency levels, various learning abilities and styles. This is why I have to implement different learning strategies, group the children based on their needs, and create meaningful activities that will keep them interested , engaged, and excited about learning. I truly enjoy working with these fantastic kids and watching them succeed in their educational endeavor!
My Project
English language learners benefit from the reinforcement of vocabulary and concepts through pictures, graphics and video. They also benefit from being able to use technology to express themselves.
Technology helps English language learners find a voice, easing the transition to a new language.
In my classroom, I work with various levels of English Language acquisition. Most of the students need a lot of support when doing their work.At times, I need to explicitly teach a small group of students certain skills. These tablets will provide the necessary support for my learners while allowing them to be actively engaged in the learning process.
" Utilizing and combining graphics, video, and audio can address varied styles of learning in a more effective way and be a tremendous support to English language learners. Finding a way to infuse technology into instruction not only helps English language learners acquire a second language, but also enhances motivation and confidence(Lacina, 2004; Lin, 2009).
Many of my ELL families cannot afford computers and do not have internet at home. These tablets may be the only opportunity for my students to practice necessary skills to become well-prepared 21st-century learners.
