I am privileged to work in a school climate of energetic, inspiring and constructive students. Ranging from various ethnic backgrounds and primarily low to medium socioeconomic status, the 5th grade classes consist of a unique group that are on the cusps of maturing academically and behaviorally in preparation for middle school. Many of them have worked extremely hard to reach this juncture while overcoming personal and familial obstacles in their young lives.
Having positive expectations for themselves requires being equipped with the necessary classroom supplies to ensure maximum success.
The basic necessities to provide students with a well-managed classroom and effective procedures in place will allow students to experience a work-oriented yet pleasant learning experience. Staying on task, learning in a productive and well-equipped environment will equate to students feeling that they will have a an exciting school year ahead of them!
Attaining the donations of two electric pencil sharpeners, dry erase writing boards and privacy folders will each play an intregal role in facilitating student learning achievement. Electric sharpeners will vastly assist in keeping students from having to use hand held sharpeners and mechanical pencils which both have a tendency to cause distractions while instruction is taking place. Having access to two electric sharpeners will allow students to sharpen two- three pencils during designated times and alleviate wasted instructional time prior to class beginning. They will be "ready" to write down the information provided to them with freshly sharpened pencils. Next, a set of dry erase writing boards can be used for group learning activities by students to write down their answers as opposed to wasting notebook paper or using time having move back and forth to the white board to write . In addition, students enjoy using these supplies and they are great way for students to record their response. Once students use the dry erase boards as a part of their learning procedure, they will then be "set "to be assessed more individually.
The aforementioned , gives way to to last supply that is being requested as a donation.
Privacy folders will have a grave impact during quizzes, weekly tests , and most importantly standardized testing. Each student is to be assessed based upon his or her individual merit and having privacy folders will enable them to show what they have "learned".
