Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is a county special education program that is housed on a district campus that celebrates inclusion. I teach eight elementary students full time but also have younger students joining us for afternoon activities.The grade span ranges from 2nd to 4th grade. My goal as a teacher working with students with moderate to severe special needs is to increase independence, social skills, communication, behavior, and attention to instruction. As my principal says, "Better Together". Thank you for your support.
My Project
My special education students need support in attending to instruction and accessing the curriculum . Maintaining attention to instruction can be especially challenging for my diverse group of learners. Research has shown that alternative seating for children with Autism Spectrum or similar disorders has shown a positive effect on classroom behavior and increasing attention to instruction. Therapy balls and chairs, like the items my class is requesting, have helped educators "facilitate engagement and in-seat behavior and create opportunities to provide effective instruction". My students are an amazing group of individuals who are ready to take on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. By funding this project, you will be helping my students increase their focus and participate in the classroom curriculum.
