We are a school of more than 530 students. We are also a full time Quest site where we have four highly capable classes and 100 students that attend Blackwell once a week for Pull-Out Quest. The staff and teachers at our school are highly involved with the community and do above and beyond to provide support for their students, their families, their teachers.
Because gifted children demonstrate greater maturity in some domains over others, they may be at greater risk for specific kinds of social-emotional difficulties if their needs are not met.
My Project
My students come to class every day ready to work hard. Their expectations are extremely high. They might feel pressure from peers, family or friends. They are always striving to go above and beyond in academics, but sometimes they struggle to see how amazing they are, how smart they are, how highly capable they are. I want to help them in their social emotional learning. I want to help them see that they are more than enough. I want to help them see that they have the power in their hands. The key to their answers lie within each one and I want to guide them in seeing this.
Students who are able to self regulate their emotions in any given situation will grow prepared to lead a rewarding, responsible life as a contributing member of our community and greater society.
Students who daily write or draw to express their emotions or to reflect find their days to transform into more calming and peaceful. My students will love getting their hands on these journals of their own.
