This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a middle school of 650 students. We are a Title I school with a high level of poverty. Our students come to us with various ability levels and life experience. Students thrive on active, hands-on, real-life activities. They often lack opportunities to develop real-life skills and hobbies outside of indoor activities or electronics.
Our students are participating in a hybrid learning model due to Covid-19 and are starving for social interaction.
We are seeking to provide these safe interactions. We are reviving our Gardening Club with a new project called "Ready, Set, Grow!"
My Project
Students will learn work ethic and perseverance through consistent care of the garden using the clippers, and trowels. Students will track plant health and add nutrients to the soil through composting and plant care.
Through this gardening project, students will learn perseverance, work ethic, plant life cycle, farm to table concepts, and vegetable preparation ideas.
Gardening aprons will allow students to be protected from dirty clothes.
Students will determine the watering needs of the vegetables and use the hoses, potting soil, nozzles, and timer to take care of the plants. We hope to share the fruits of our labor with the entire student body by offering taste tests and free samples.
