Help me give my students the necessary equipment to be successful in track and field. We are lacking field event equipment such as shot puts, discuses, and batons for relays.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our athletes are a great group of girls and boys who not only try to accomplish great things academically, but they also push beyond their limits both emotionally and physically in order to be great athletically.
"Change your mindset, and you change your situation," is a quote that I often repeat to both my students and my athletes.
We know that the simplest definition of insanity is "doing the same and getting the same result". In order to be better, we have to change who we are. "What can I do to make a better me?", is the question that I often ask myself. Everyday, I challenge my athletes to be better than the day before. We have to work harder. We have to push through. We have to think differently, look differently, and have a different demeanor about ourselves.
Athletes are sometimes held to a higher standard because they not only have to perform on the field, court, or track, but they also have to continue to perform in the classroom. My athletes know that academics come first; work first, play later.
My Project
Donations to this project will really benefit our team. We have a great group of athletes who just want to do their best on the track and field, and donations to this project will provide them with the items needed to participate in their particular events. In the past, we've had to borrow shot puts, discuses, and even batons from other teams with whom we were competing against because we simply did not have that particular equipment. It should not be the responsibility of other teams to provide equipment for another opposing team. We would like our own equipment for the purpose of practicing and for use during our track meets. This is my second year as track coach, and although I came into a situation with no equipment on last year, I would love to be able to provide my athletes with the necessary equipment to help them be successful in this sport on this year and years to come.
