My students need Search and Find Math Boards and Math Shark to improve their math skills. Students will improve fluency and comprehension with books and their CDs.
My students face the daunting task of passing standardized tests when the focus in their homes is on survival not math facts. I need to capture my students' attention while guiding them through the learning process.
My students attend a small public school in the state of Florida.
The school has over 92% of the students on free breakfast and lunch. For many, the two meals they receive at school are their main source of food. These students see all of the wonderful games and technology advertised on the television. These luxuries are out of reach for the parents. With your generous donation, I can use these materials to motivate my students to work even harder to attain the necessary goals. They love technology and books. Opening a book is an avenue to adventures they have not experienced. In my request, I have combined both of these types of materials.
My Project
MathShark, Light and Strike Math, Search and Find Math Boards, and the Time and Measurement Math Lacers will be used to enrich the math curriculum through games. The students will practice their math skills with partners or teams. The bells, whistles, and lights will delight them! The Hot Dots Reading Comprehension Cards will be used for independent practice in the academic area of reading comprehension. The students are congratulated when they answer the cards correctly with flashing lights and praise. If they miss the answer, they are redirected to the passage to try again. The books and tapes will be especially helpful to my English Language Learners. They will be able to hear the books read repeatedly and eventually read along with the narrator. All of these activities will provide hours of educational fun year after year!
The only way the cycle of poverty will be changed is through education.
Textbooks and paper only go so far in educating students. I need to be able to inspire these students to push toward their goals. I can use these materials to entice them to reach even higher and learn more while having fun! They feel like they are just playing games when essential objectives are being met.
