My students need a classroom that is clean so we can all stay healthy all year long! Some of these items are going to help us stay healthy - some will help us stay creative!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school community is in one of the roughest areas in an inner city in Connecticut. All of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and are living at a below poverty level. The vast majority of them live in non-traditional homes, and many deal with homelessness and constant displacement. Some of my students have had parents or other close relatives in jail for a variety of issues. They are often confined to their homes due to the unsafe neighborhood in which they live.
Despite such hardships, all of our students do what they can to attend school every day and learn the best they can.
Even the children who act extremely tough on the outside swell with pride when they master something new in our classroom. Our school is their safe place and each of us work extremely hard to provide our students with as many opportunities to learn as possible so they can recognize their strengths and the endless possibilities in their future.
My Project
Some of this project's items will help to keep my students healthy and our classroom clean and smelling fresh! With so many people in one room at a time, germs find a happy place, especially in the winter months. They can't learn if they are home sick - so let's keep our room clean and our students healthy and in school!
So many of our students are incredibly artistic and creative.
This project will also provide some art supplies to get their creative juices flowing! The art materials will certainly give them a good start on any projects they will have to work on throughout the year.
