My students need an iPad so they can work independently to reenforce reading skills in a meaningful and fun way. They will receive many benefits with this technology.
"Ready, set, go!" These are the words that are said to begin a race. I believe my students are in a race to learn how to read. By third grade, if a student cannot pass a reading proficiency test, they will not get to move on to the fourth grade.
My students are kindergarten through second graders.
Many of them come from impoverished home environments. About 80% of the families in our school are considered to be low income. These children lack opportunities to be successful, participate in activities in the community, and to receive help with their academics.
My students' lives will be enriched as they get to use the requested iPad in our classroom. Most of my students would never have the opportunity to learn how to use technology if it was not provided at school. My students seldom get to use computers, so this iPad will add a dimension to their learning. My students will not realize that they are working and learning because the iPad will seem fun. They will be able to work independently while I give other students one on one instruction.
I feel an urgency to help these students learn to read.
I feel like we are in a race and without a doubt, I believe most of my students will be successful and become proficient readers. Please help me provide hands-on experiences for them as well as a means of helping them to win the race of reading on grade level. The iPad is only for my students. They are going to achieve their goals because of your generosity!
