Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When you are a student, nothing feels better than walking into a clean, organized, well-stocked classroom. On the first day of school, I want my students to see all the pens, pencils, paper and art supplies they need for the year laid out before them.
I teach integrated special ed.
and general education classes in a brand new public middle school in the Bronx. Although our neighborhood lies in the poorest Congressional district in the country, community members have fought for years to build their children the middle school they deserve. As our doors open for the first time in September, we are ready to make our community proud! Our kids are dynamic, curious, and highly motivated. They love independent reading, math problem-solving, and helping out in the community garden. As they begin 6th grade, their first year with us in middle school, I want them to be poised for their most successful year to date.
My Project
I like to keep my classroom supplies ready at all times, with stacks of new paper sorted by color at the front of the room, scissors and glue sticks set out for every student, and a cup of extra pens and pencils refilled every day. At the end of the last school year, I took a careful inventory of all the supplies that I was bringing to our new school. I made a list of everything I would need to replenish by September. The pens, paper, and art supplies in this project will last us for at least two marking periods this year. The first aid and storage supplies will last us all year.
With your help, we can kick start our kids' first year of middle school and keep us going strong all year long.
Help us supply our classroom, and make it a place where any student would be proud to work.
