Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My new third grade students enter my classroom expecting third grade to be very much like second grade. They soon discover that although my classroom is fun, with "Charlie the Cheetah",our classroom mascot, and the special privilege of sitting in the "Master Chair", it is also very challenging.
My students are amazing!
They come to school each day with open minds and an eagerness to learn. The students who attend my school are mostly Hispanic and their families are low income. Even though many of the families have experienced some kind of heartache or setback, they are supportive and kind. I have never experienced a school where the parents demonstrate support and respect for the teachers as much as at my school. The mission of our school is to ensure that all students of the community become life long learners and become productive members of society. This includes providing educational services to our parents. To instill this vision in our students, every student cites the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as our school affirmation every morning.
My Project
I want my classroom to run “like a well oiled machine.” I believe the smoother the day goes, the more learning will take place. In order for that to happen, the students need to be more organized and their supplies need to be easily accessible. The students already have color coded folders and binders. For example, the green folder is the homework folder, yellow is literacy, and blue is science. The color coding makes it easier for the students to find the correct folder needed for the lesson. This saves time. Unfortunately, the students' desks are small and other school supplies are falling out of their desks when they reach for their folders. I believe having “Chairback Buddies” will free up space in their desks and less time will be spent collecting crayons and pencils that have scattered all over the floor.
If my request for "Chairback Buddies" is funded, my third grade classroom will reap many benefits.
Students will learn to become better organized. They will know where to locate supplies quickly. This in turn will result in faster transition times and more time for quality learning. It is my duty to prepare students for long term success in school. This begins now, by helping them get organized.
