My Students

I teach science to 120 students from various walks of life. We love my class. It's fun. It's energetic. We do the cool stuff because science IS the cool stuff. I want my students to take experiences from my class, and remember them for the rest of their lives.

I have 6 classes that are full of students from all walks of life.

I teach white kids. I teach African American kids. I teach Mexican kids. I teach Hispanic kids. I teach Guatemalan kids. I teach them all! Most of the students come from a household below the poverty level or hovering at the poverty level. In fact, out district in South Mississippi has a high percentage of poverty stricken families as well as an even higher number of English Language Learners.

My Project

With the owl pellets I am requesting, my students will get a hands on approach to learning and reviewing the predator and prey relationship. They will work in pairs to discover what prey the owl has feasted upon, and be able to use their observation skills to see just how many subjects there may be in the pellets.

Engaging, hands on activities are the key to having students devour the knowledge at hand.

Science allows for multiple opportunities of hands on in the classroom. This activity will provide the needed review and refresher before the mandated state assessment, and it will give the students a memory that will be hard to forget!
